The MBA North Annual Regional Safety Competition provides a platform for member companies to benchmark their H&S management systems and implementation against their competitors in Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo and North-West Provinces for only R500 registration per entry.
Competition entries opened on Thursday, 12 January 2023 and closed on Friday, 24 February 2023. Overall, MBA North received 78 project entries, from 18 principal contractors and 10 sub-contractors. To date (26/04/2023), 36 audits have been successfully completed.
WBHO Construction, ENZA Construction, Tiber Construction, Abbeydale Building and Civils, Tri-Star Construction, Washirika 3 Oaks, GVK-Siya Zama Building Contractors Gauteng, VIVA Formwork & Scaffolding JHB and VIVA Projects JHB consistently participate in the competition, displaying their commitment to the health & Safety of their employees.
This year, new entries were received from Barrow Construction, BCMA Construction, Tractionel Enterprise and 8 subcontractors such as Gauteng Piling, Presto, Electrical, Zadok Holdings, Warb Plumbing, and Tshwane Fire amongst others.
The competition results will be submitted to MBSA by 31 May 2023 and will be published in the SA Builder & the MBA North newsletter. Category winners will automatically be entered into the MBSA National Safety Competition. The Safety Awards Ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, 24 August 2023.

The Lead Audit team consists of MBA North Construction Health and Safety officers – Mr Gerhard Roets, Mr Manie Van As, Mr Zenzele Mabuza Ms Mbuya Ramabulana and Mr Duncan Ebersöhn. The administration and verification of the audit results is conducted by Ms Amisha Chunderduth. The MBSA Occupational Health & Safety Audit System is used by the auditors for the adjudicating process.
MBA North annually calls for special nominations for Best Performing SHE Representative, OHS Officer, OHS Manager, Construction Manager and Client’s H&S Agent during this competition.
