2024 MBA North Regional Safety Competition

Provides a platform from which companies may benchmark their Health and Safety (H&S) Management Systems and implementation against other companies in our region and nationally. By participating in the competition, the company verifies their compliance with relevant legislation and best practices in the industry.
- Registered members of the MBA North and Policy Holders of the Federated Employer`s Mutual Assurance (FEM) may be entered into the annual regional safety competition.
- The sites/yards should be at least 20% past start up and not past 80% from completion at the time of judging.
- Sites/yards may be entered for the competition from Monday, 15 January 2024 until Thursday, 29 February 2024 at 12:00.
- Competition judging/audits will be conducted by the MBA North H&S Auditors.
- Upon receipt of an entry, the CHS Administrator will arrange with the applicant for a suitable date and time for the audit to be conducted.
- Category winners will automatically be entered into the MBSA National Safety Competition, should all relevant criteria be met and subject to the decision of MBSA.
The Master Builders South Africa (MBSA) Occupational Health & Safety Audit System and 5-Star Grading Programme Audit shall be used to measure performance. All relevant categories shall be assessed.
Essential requirements for Regional and National Audits
Herewith a list of the items that require 100% compliance before an audit can take place on a site:
- Valid letter of good standing in respect of Workman’s Compensation
- Health and Safety Plan
- Issue-Based Risk Assessment which includes (1) Safe Work Procedures (2) Monitoring Plan and (3) Review Plan
- Disabling Injury Frequency Rate (DIFR).
- Construction Work Permit (where required in terms of Construction Regulation 3)
The Regional Safety Competition results shall be published by the Master Builders Association North (MBA North) June in 2024.
An awards ceremony will be held on Thursday, 22 August 2024.

- A – Plant & Storage Yard
- B1 – Allied Trades
- B2 – Manufacturers
- C – Less than R15m
- D – R15m to R40m
- E – R40m to R100m
- F – R100m to R250m
- G – R250m to R450m
- H – R450m to R750m
- I – R750m plus
- Health and Safety Client Agent of the Year
- Construction Manager of the Year
- Health & Safety Manager of the Year
- Health and Safety Officer of the Year
- Construction Supervisor of the Year
- Yard Manager of the Year
- Health and Safety Representative of the Year
- Sub-contractor of the Year
The Entry Form(s) should be submitted to Ms Natalie Letsekga on or before 12:00 on Thursday, 29 February 2024. This will provide the panel of judges with sufficient time to prepare a program of Health and Safety Audits. Sufficient notification of such audits shall be provided to all participants in due course.
An administration fee of R700.00 excluding VAT will be applicable per site entered. The entry fee must be paid prior to the audit taking place on site and proof of payment must be submitted to natalie@mbanorth.co.za. Failure to produce proof of payment before the audit takes place will result in the audit being cancelled.
