Group discussions rounded off the session where topics such as duty to inform; forklift safety; stacking and storage; and slip and trip hazards hazards were discussed.

Due to the sudden increase in the Disabling Injury Frequency Rate (DIFR) of the industry in general, Peri Centurion Branch called for a collaborative workshop, facilitated by Master Builders Association North (MBA North), in which representatives from the Federated Employers Mutual (FEM) and the Building and Construction Industry Medical Aid Fund (BCIMA) addressed the company’s yard, shed and workshop staff on matters pertaining to the classification, facts and myths surrounding injuries on duty in the workplace.
Francois du Plessis from FEM drove home the importance of all aspects of personal protective equipment (PPE). reminding the staff that it is the last line of defence, “PPE is the last barrier between you and hazards,” he said. “PPE is replaceable – and you are not!”
Ferdi Snyman outlined the importance of medical aid cover and the variuos options available from BCIMA.
