The MBA North Annual Regional Safety Competition serves as a pivotal platform for member companies to benchmark their Health and Safety (H&S) management systems and practices, enabling them to compare their performance against industry peers across Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo and North-West Provinces.
Entries for the competition opened on Monday, 15 January 2024 and closed on Thursday, 29 February 2024. Overall, MBA North received a commendable total of 67 projects, encompassing 17 principal contractors and 3 sub-contractors.
Consistent dedication to H&S excellence is demonstrated by WBHO Construction, ENZA Construction, Tiber Construction, Peri-Formwork Scaffolding Engineering, Abbeydale Building and Civils, Tri-Star Construction, Washirika 3 Oaks, GVK-Siya Zama Building Contractors Gauteng, VIVA Formwork & Scaffolding JHB, Formacon and VIVA Projects JHB who have been steadfast participants in the competition.
This year, MBA North welcomed new entries from Raubex Building.
MBA North also calls for special nominations for Best Performing SHE Representative, OHS Officer, OHS Manager, Construction Manager and Client’s H&S Agent annually as part of this prestigious competition.

The competition results will be submitted to MBSA by 31 May 2024 and will be showcased in the SA Builder & the MBA North newsletter. Category winners will automatically progress to the MBSA National Safety Competition. The Safety Awards Ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, 22 August 2024.The Lead Audit team comprising MBA North Construction Health and Safety officers – Mr Gerhard Roets, Mr Manie Van As and Ms Mbuya Ramabulana ensures the integrity and accuracy of the audit process. The administration and verification of the audit results is overseen by Ms Natalie Letsekga. The MBSA Occupational Health & Safety Audit System serves as the cornerstone for the adjudication process.
